Meta tags are elements used on every page of a website to provide information related to the website and the individual pages of the website, they have a big influence on your SEO performance. Every web page has meta tags, but they are only visible in HTML code.

Here are some common Meta tags:

1) The title of the page

2)

3)

Page titles

The title tag is to be used on every page of the website. This should describe the content of each unique page and include keywords where appropriate.

Page titles are an important factor on the site that help the SERPS ranking of a website. They provide summarized information about your website that appears in the SERPS when key phrases related to a website page are searched.

Each page of a website should have unique page titles. Although Google does not specify a recommended length for title tags, most desktop and mobile browsers are capable of displaying the first 50 to 60 characters of a title tag.

Although since August 2021, Google has confirmed the update of the title tags and the way they are generated has changed. Your goal should always be to create great looking HTML title tags. HTML title tag content is still by far the most used, over 80% of the time, so it’s worth optimizing your title tags.

Meta Description

The Meta Description tag is a place where you can include a summary of the page content.
Meta descriptions appear in SERPs just below page titles. The purpose of the meta description is to create a relevant and interesting description of the page.

Meta descriptions are extremely important in improving user click-through rate and give you the ability to let users know exactly what is on the page. Meta descriptions are summaries and have an optimal size not to exceed 160 characters.

Robots label

The Robots tag tells search engine robots how to process your website pages. Noindex will tell search engines not to index this page. Nofollow will tell them not to follow any of the links on the page.

Best practices

Title and Description

The Title tag is important and should appear on every page of the website. It should reflect the content of the page and include keywords relevant to the page. Search engines bold keywords in the title and description associated with the search query in the results. Each page should have individual title tags.

The meta description should be descriptive and also relate to what appears on the page. The meta description has no influence on the ranking in the results and therefore its job is only to encourage a click.

Meta Robots tag

The Meta Robots tag is used to tell search engines how to treat certain pages on your website. For example, if you don’t want search engines to index a certain page on your website, you can use the Noindex tag. If you don’t want search engines to follow any of the links on a specific page on your website, you can use the nofollow tag. We recommend that you add them with care, as they might prevent important pages of your website from being indexed if placed on the wrong pages or across the site.
